PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTION TO OPENAI

If an image, chart, file, or other artifact has once appeared visibly inside a ChatGPT conversation, that artifact should become part of the durable conversation record.

Today I reopened a conversation and found a wall of repeated red “Code interpreter session expired” errors and blank image placeholders. The text survived; pieces of the visual history did not.

This is more than cosmetic. Some of us use long AI conversations as external memory, project history, documentation, and accessibility infrastructure. Requiring a user to remember what disappeared and manually reconstruct it defeats that purpose.

Suggested rule:

IF THE USER SAW IT IN THE CONVERSATION, THE CONVERSATION SHOULD REMEMBER IT.

Temporary compute sessions can expire. User-visible results should be promoted to durable conversation storage. If an artifact truly cannot be preserved, keep a permanent metadata card with filename, description, provenance, timestamp, and recovery information instead of destroying the visual chronology.

This would improve reliability for everyone and accessibility for users who depend on persistent context.
