Hardware and Storage Plan
Part of the 8K Open Studio public archive scaffold.
Performance-first architecture
Capture → ingest → server → DAS → 10GbE/100GbE backbone → CUDA workstations → archive
The goal is to remove bottlenecks from 8K/VR180 authoring, recovery imaging, AI-assisted media work, and public documentation.
Major decisions
- Return toy gaming mini PC if it lacks the right server-class I/O.
- Prefer Thunderbolt 4, PCIe slots, 10GbE minimum, and a 100GbE upgrade path.
- Use DAS for many drives and keep hot mechanical drives out of the GPU workstation.
- Use separate recovery handling for damaged drives: image first, recover from image.
